The members of the Vancouver Krishna Balaram Mandir are trying to strictly follow the orders of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acarya of the Hare Krishna Movement. We have firm faith that by following his instructions, we can go back home back to Godhead where we originally came from. Our spiritual philosophical discussions, classes, and readings are based on the original books used by Srila Prabhupada which converted thousands of innocent people into Vaisnavism.
As per Srila Prabhupada’s order, we follow the initiation process outlined in the July 9, 1977 letter, and the May 28, 1977 conversation in Vrindavana. The signed and approved July 9th letter by Srila Prabhupada, and the May 28th conversation in Vrindavana confirms that the newly initiated devotees are disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, even if he is no longer physically present in this material world. The Vancouver Krishna Balaram Mandir has three programs as follows:
Sunday Feast Program
This program is held every 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month located in New Westminster. The program consists of lively kirtan, bhajans, philosophical discussion on the Bhagavad-gita, and prasadam (relishing sanctified vegetarian foodstuff).
This program is held in Vancouver at Bridge & Enrich Lives Society (718 East 20th Avenue, Vancouver), where we preach to inquisitive new comers who are interested to know more about the Krishna Consciousness Movement. This program also consists of kirtans, bhajans, discussions on the basic philosophy and prasadam.
Harinam & Book Distribution Program
During the summer season, the devotees go out for Harinam & Book Distribution at Kitsilano Beach to please Srila Prabhupada by spreading the Krishna Consciousness Movement. Afterwards, the devotees come together to have a picnic and enjoy the delicious prasadam.
Our mission statement here at Vancouver Krishna Balaram Mandir is to maintain Srila Prabhupada as the only diksa guru of the Hare Krishna Movement as per his instruction outlined July 9, 1977 letter.
Quotes from Srila Prabhupada
“The GBC should all be the instructor gurus. I am the initiator guru, and you should be their instructor guru by teaching what I am teaching and doing… what I am doing.”
Letter to Madhudvisa – August 4, 1975
“There have been so many fallen down. First of all there will be no sanyasi anymore. I have got very bad experience. And at least, we are not going to create new sanyasis. And those who have fallen down, let them marry, live like respectable gentlemen.”
Room Conversation – January 7, 1977, Bombay
“Only Lord Caitanya can take my place. He will take care of the Movement.”
Room Conversation – translated from Hindi, February 11, 1977
“We are therefore presenting Bhagavad-gita as it is. We do not change. Why should you change? What right you have got to change? If Bhagavad-gita is a book of authority, and if I make my own interpretation, then where is the authority? Can you change the lawbook according to your interpretation? Then what is the meaning of that lawbook? That is not lawbook. You cannot change. Similarly, if you accept Bhagavad-gita as the book of authority, you cannot change the meaning. That is not allowed. What right? If you have got some opinion, if you have got some philosophy, you can write in your own book.”
Bhagavad Gita Lecture 7.1 – Hyderabad, April 27, 1974
“But the difficulty is that our GBC men are falling victim to maya. Today I trust this GBC and tomorrow he will fall down. That is the difficulty. If the GBC men are so flickering then what to speak of the others. Unless this problem is solved whatever we may resolve it will not be very useful.”
Letter to Jayatirtha – Bombay, December 16, 1974
